How to raise 20,000 broiler chickens?

2025-06-20

The broiler flat system combines the characteristics of feeding, drinking water, lighting and environmental control systems to ensure the production capacity and excellent growth of broilers. -The feeding system is suitable for chickens of any age. The feeding tray makes it easy for chickens to eat feed and for operators to check

Raising 20,000 broilers is a large-scale production activity that requires systematic planning and management, involving site construction, variety selection, feeding management,

disease prevention and control, cost control and other links. The following is a detailed breeding plan:

I. Preliminary preparation
1. Site selection and chicken house construction
Site requirements:

High and dry terrain, good drainage, far away from residential areas, main traffic roads and other farms (biosafety distance ≥ 500 meters).

Sufficient water source, stable electricity, convenient transportation.

Chicken house specifications (taking standardized breeding as an example):

Type: Closed or semi-closed chicken houses are recommended (environmentally controllable).

Area: Each broiler occupies 0.07~0.1㎡, 20,000 only need 1400~2000㎡ (2~3 chicken houses can be built, each about 700㎡).

Height: Eaves height 2.5~3 meters, ridge height 4~5 meters (to ensure ventilation).

Equipment:

Automatic feeding system (saving labor).

Automatic waterer (nipple or cup type).

Ventilation System (negative pressure fan + wet curtain).

Insulation equipment (hot air furnace, floor heating or heat preservation lamp, 35℃ required for chicks).

Lighting system (LED energy-saving lamp, control lighting time).
If you are in Africa, you may need solar power generation equipment.

2. Variety selection
Fast large white-feathered broilers (such as AA+, Ross 308, and Cobb):

Fast growth (marketed in 42 days, weighing 2.5~3kg), high feed conversion rate (1.5~1.7:1).

Suitable for large-scale breeding, but high management requirements.

Yellow-feathered broilers (such as Lingnan Yellow and Wenshi Yellow Chicken):

Slower growth (marketed in 60~90 days), better meat quality, higher price, suitable for differentiated markets.

II. Feeding and management
1. Preparation for chicks
Disinfection: Clean the chicken house thoroughly 7 days before the arrival of chicks and disinfect with caustic soda + formaldehyde fumigation.

Preheating: Raise the temperature to 35℃ (chicken area) 24 hours before the arrival of chicks, and the humidity is 60%~70%.

2. Brooding period (0~14 days old)
Temperature:

First week: 35~33℃ (drop 2~3℃ per week, drop to 21℃ at 28 days old).

Drinking water and feeding:

After the chicks arrive, feed them with 5% glucose water (2 hours) first, then feed them.

Use crushed feed (easy to digest), feed every 2 hours for the first 3 days.

Density:

30~40 chicks/㎡ in the early stage, and gradually reduce to 10~15 chicks/㎡ in the later stage.

3. Growth period (15-35 days old)
Feed:

Change to broiler mid-term feed (crude protein 18%-20%), free feeding.

Ventilation:

Enhance ventilation (ammonia concentration <20ppm) to avoid respiratory diseases.

Light:

23 hours of light per day (1 hour of darkness), intensity 10-20 lux.

4. Fattening period (36 days old to market)
Feed:

Change to high-energy fattening feed (crude protein 16%-18%).

Management before market:

Stop feeding drugs (comply with the withdrawal period), reduce stress (avoid shocking the flock before catching the chickens).

III. Disease prevention and control
1. Immunization program
Age Vaccine Vaccination method
1 Marek's disease Subcutaneous injection in the neck
7 Newcastle disease + bronchitis (H120) Nasal drops/eye drops
14 Fabricius bursa (B87) Drinking water
21 Newcastle disease (La Sota) Drinking water
28 Avian influenza (H5+H7) Intramuscular injection
2. Prevention and control of common diseases
Escherichia coli disease: Treat with enrofloxacin and florfenicol.

Coccidiosis: Prevent with diclazuril or sulfonamide drugs.

Newcastle disease: Strictly immunize, and urgently vaccinate IV vaccine when the disease occurs.

IV. Cost and benefit estimation
1. Cost (taking white-feathered broilers as an example, marketed in 42 days)
Item Unit price Quantity Total cost (RMB)
Chicken 4 RMB/chicken 20,000 80,000
Feed 3.5 RMB/kg 5kg/chicken 350,000
Medicine and vaccine 1 RMB/chicken 20,000 20,000
Water, electricity and coal 0.5 RMB/chicken 20,000 10,000
Labor 5,000 RMB/person 2 people 10,000
Equipment depreciation - - 20,000
Total - - 490,000
2. Benefit
Market weight: 2.5 kg/chicken, survival rate 95% (19,000 chickens).

Selling price: Calculated based on the market price of 10 yuan/kg:

Total income: 19,000 × 2.5kg × 10 yuan = 475,000 yuan.

Profit: 475,000 - 490,000 = -15,000 yuan (may lose money if the market is sluggish).

Key points:

Feed costs account for 70%, and controlling the feed-to-meat ratio (FCR) is the key.

The market fluctuates greatly, so it is recommended to sign a guaranteed contract (such as cooperating with companies such as Wens and New Hope).

V. Risks and responses
Market risks:

Pay attention to the broiler price index (such as Zhihua Data and Boya Hexun) to avoid concentrated sales.

Disease risks:

Strictly implement the "all-in, all-out" system, and disinfect each batch every 15 days.

Environmental protection requirements:

Manure treatment (fermentation to make organic fertilizer or biogas) to avoid pollution.
